Genesis Genomics Inc. (GGI), recently chosen as a Canadian Top Ten company in Life Sciences and identified as one of Canada’s top investment prospects for 2008, today announced key appointments in a strategic realignment of its Executive Team. The realignment is being undertaken in preparation for the next level of significant growth anticipated in the near term. The appointments underscore the company’s transition toward the commercialization of its product pipeline as well as the completion this spring of the term of current GGI CEO and Chairman of the Board, Dr. Robert Thayer.
Executive Line-Up
Dr. Robert Thayer has confirmed the appointment of Mr. Robert J. Poulter, the current President and Chief Operating Officer, as the Company’s new ‘President and Chief Executive Officer’. Under Mr. Poulter’s leadership, Genesis Genomics Inc. has experienced the successful transition from a research and development company to a full-fledged commercial enterprise. “Over the course of the past six months, Mr. Poulter has positioned the company globally, established strategic relationships with global partners, licensed a key technology to a global distributor, and established many positive relationships with the investment community,” said Dr. Thayer. “His strong track record and ability to deliver value to our shareholders makes Mr. Poulter’s appointment as President and CEO a natural evolution for Genesis Genomics.”
While Mr. Poulter positions the Company for commercialization, he has also developed a strategy to lead the Corporation toward an Initial Public Offering (IPO) in the fall of 2009. The Board of Directors has also outlined changes that will support this commercialization and IPO strategy. One of these includes the nomination of ‘Chair Elect’, Mr. Gregory Hines. Gregory Hines is President, CEO and Director of ArcticDx Inc., a molecular diagnostic company in Toronto, Ontario. Prior to this, Mr. Hines was President, CEO and Director of Tm Bioscience Corporation (TSE, TMC) from March 31, 2000 to March 1, 2007. At Tm Bioscience, Mr. Hines led the design, development, and commercialization of a molecular diagnostic platform complete with a menu of molecular tests in the fields of Human Genetics, Pharmacogenetics, and Infectious Disease. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of The Biotechnology Initiative (TBI, Toronto) and the Canadian Gene Cure Foundation.
In keeping with plans to further advance the commercialization of their molecular diagnostic and cancer biomarker discovery program, Genesis Genomics Inc. has appointed Mr. Michael Fawcett as Vice President of Business Development. Mr. Fawcett, former Central and Eastern Europe Regional Business Manager for Microsoft's Global Accounts organization, led business development for Microsoft's largest and most strategic customers across this diverse and emerging global market. Prior to assuming that role in Central & Eastern Europe, Mr. Fawcett successfully managed business for Global Accounts in Switzerland, Netherlands, and NY/NJ. Mr. Fawcett is thrilled to be home in a position with Genesis Genomics as it leads Thunder Bay's emerging Life Sciences – Knowledge economy.
Dr. Thayer said, “The last six years as CEO of the Company has been both exciting and very rewarding for me, but the Company has now achieved a level of sophistication requiring a more experienced Management Team to execute the GGI International Game Plan. Positioning the Company to the point of commercialization has only been achieved by the hard work of all GGI’s team members. Accomplishing this goal as a team has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my professional life. It is always difficult to let go of something you love but the growth of the Company requires change. I retire from this position with greatest confidence that Bob, Michael, and Greg will lead the Company to the achievement of its corporate goals.”
